Oceania Super Fighter Show
Two SPMA students were victorious on November 4th at Bonnyrigg. Kyle Madden won his MMA match by rear naked choke in the first round and Angus Benson won his kickboxing match by unanimous decision. Congratulations!

Concord Street Fair
SPMA will be participating in the Concord Street Fair again this year on Sunday October 15th. The street Fair will be from 9am to 4pm on Majors Bay Rd. Come and visit us at our stall and also support us when we are giving a demo on the main stage. Last year over 15,000 people turned up. It is a great day for all the family.
SPMA clean sweep
Four SPMA students fought in MMA matches at the King of the Cage event at Penrith Panthers on Friday September 29th and they all won their matches by submission. Angus Benson and Shane Nix won by strikes from mount, Kyle Madden won by rear naked choke and Mike Abela won by armbar. Congratulations to all the four students for putting in great performances.
New promotions
Congratulations to Sari Redzeposki and Steven Micallef on receiving their purple belts in BJJ. Both students won their respective weight divisions in the Australian Cup held last month. They are also accredited coaches and assist with classes at SPMA. Well done to both of you.

Public Holiday Schedule
SPMA will be closed on Monday 2nd October for the public holiday. There will be no classes at either the Concord or Liverpool schools.
BJJ tournament results
There were 2 BJJ tournaments in September. Congratulations to Bernie Florence and Dane Brett who competed in the Machado Nationals in Melbourne on September 16th.
SPMA put in a big team for the Australian BJJ Champions Cup held in Sydney on September 23rd. SPMA won 3 gold medals and 2 silver in the men’s white belt divisions; 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medal in the men’s blue belt divisions; 3 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze in the women’s divisions; and 3 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze medals in the Kids divisions.

Promotions
Congratulations to all the students who graded between September 20 and 25. Elvis wins in Sydney
Elvis competed in the Xplosion Martial Arts event on August 18th at the Sydney Entertainment Centre. He faced a tough and experienced Pride fighter Katsuhisa Fuji. There was alot of backward and forward action with striking and grappling. In the end Elvis won the match at about the 3 min mark with an armbar from guard. Elvis would like to thank everyone from SPMA for all their support not only at the event, but also during his training in the lead up to the match.
Hape teaching at Liverpool
SPMA are very proud to welcome Hape Ngaronoa as a kickboxing instructor at the Liverpool school. Hape will be taking all the kickboxing classes from Monday to Thursday night at the Liverpool school. Hape has over 30 years experience and has taught many kickboxing champions most notably Pride/K1 fighter Mark Hunt. And most recently Hape has been the striking coach for chief instructors Anthony Perosh and Elvis Sinosic for their last fights.
Next BJJ tournaments
The Machado BJJ Nationals will be held in Melbourne on September 16th. The instructors and a small team will be going down to compete.
The following weekend on September 23rd is the AFBJJ Nationals to be held at the University of Sydney Sports and Aquatic Centre. It is open to everybody and you do not have to qualify. There will be the usual divisions including kids, adults and masters. It will be a great tournament for beginners too as you don't have to qualify to enter and it is a chance to compete against other states.
Next Grading
The next grading for BJJ, Thai Kickboxing and for Kids will be on September 20 and 21. Each student should purchase a training manual for $10, which lists all the grading requirements. The chief instructors will notify each student individually whether they are grading or not.
Yoga timetable change
Yoga is now every Tuesday and Friday at 9.45am to 10.45am at Concord.

UFC 61
Chief Instructor Anthony Perosh fought at UFC 61 against Jeff Monson on July 8th at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. Anthony lost by TKO in the first round but put in a great performance. Chief Instructor Anthony Perosh has returned from the Philippines. He did not compete due to no other black belts entering. BJJ news
SPMA fielded a big team at the Machado NSW State Championships on May 28th. The competition was for white belts only. Michael De Marco won gold with 3 wins and Jet De Martin took silver with 2 wins in their respective kids divisions. Adults who placed 1st were Kat Clarke (Female O/55kg), Adam Celestino (Male U/79kg), Alex Budlevskis (Male U/85kg) and Ewan McDonald (Male U/97kg). Amanda Wagg placed 2nd in the female U/55kg division. Adults who placed 3rd were James Stevenson (Male U/67kg), Mark Comedoy (Male U/73kg), Hayden Wilde (Male U/79kg) and Nick Roe (Male O/97kg). Adults who did not place but did their best were Julian Alva, Chris Kalliris, Ronan Darcy, Jason Junkeer, Stephen Tamayo, Costa Kalergis, John Pirri and David Black. Well done to everyone who competed!
Thai Kickboxing news
Jessy Landry and Vince Sorrentino fought and won their respective kickboxing matches during Kickboxing Sparring Day held at Bulldog kickboxing gym in Manly on May 20. David Black and Henry Lange both lost their matches but credit to both for stepping in after only 3 months of training. This day was organised for up and coming fighters to gain valuable ring experience under kickboxing match conditions. Well done to all the guys who competed.

Chief Instructor news
Chief Instructor Anthony Perosh will be in the Philippines from May 18 to May 26. He will be participating in the Pan Asian BJJ Championships and also teaching a seminar at Stephen Kamphuis’ BJJ school. Stephen Kamphuis is a Machado BJJ Blackbelt from Australia now living in the Philippines.
New belt promotions
Anthony Perosh promoted Matt Cooper to brown belt during a seminar at Matt Cooper’s school in Brisbane. Ben Mallia and Denis Roberts promoted to purple belt during a training trip to Sydney. Ben and Denis teach BJJ in Canberra. Congratulations guys!
Carlos Machado seminars in June!
Carlos Machado is coming to Sydney to teach BJJ seminars on June 10 and 11. It has been 2 years since his last visit. If you missed out last time make sure you go to his seminar this time. He will teach white belts on Saturday and blue belts and above on Sunday. Carlos will also be teaching seminars in Brisbane on June 17 and 18 and in Melbourne June 24 and 25.

Anzac Day Public Holiday

Chief Instructors to teach at Liverpool
From Monday May 1st chief instructors Anthony Perosh and Elvis Sinosic will be teaching the classes at Liverpool. Anthony will be teaching Monday mornings and Thursday nights and Elvis will be teaching Monday nights and Wednesday mornings.

Warriors Realm Results
Chief Instructor Anthony Perosh fought and won his match at Warriors Realm in the cage on February 25th on the Sunshine Coast. Anthony defeated Ross Dallow from Melbourne after 2 minutes 25 seconds of the first round. Anthony took him down and achieved mount quickly where he proceeded to ground and pound before eventually making him tap with a rear naked choke.
ISKA results
On Sunday 12th March the ISKA held the first BJJ tournament for 2006, the ISKA NSW Open. The tournament was held at the State Sport Centre in Homebush. SPMA put in a strong team of Kids and Adults, many of which were competing for their first time. The kids team consisted of Alex Karaberas (1st, 8-10yo, 31kg), Michael De Marco (2nd, 8-10yo, 31kg), Paul D’Alessandro (3rd, 8-10yo, 31kg), Elyssa Mastroianni, Ivo Marinov, Adam Assuncao (1st, 11-13yo, 39kg), Rafaelle Lagarto (2nd, 11-13yo, 39kg), Anthony D’Alessandro (3rd, 11-13yo, 39kg), Chris Bavaro, Jayme McDonnell (1st, Girls 11-13yo open), Phillip Ferraro (1st, 14-15yo, 55kg), Michael Ramondino (3rd, 14-15yo, 75kg) and Troy Arnold (14-15yo, 75kg). The Adults team consisted of Alena Calcott (Women’s open), Nick McNamara (White, 67kg), Peter Barabanera (White, 73kg), John Ramondino (White, 79kg), Chris Kalliris (White, 79kg), Adam Celestino (1st, White, 85kg), Costa Kalergis (3rd, White, 85kg) and Luke Dowse (1st, White, 91kg). Spartan 15 “Desire”
The next Spartan show called “Desire” is on March 25th on the Gold Coast. SPMA students Ben Power and Ben Cordony are fighting on the night in their MMA debut. We wish them all the best! Steven Micalled was also scheduled to fight but had to pull out due to injury sustained at training.

Liverpool is open!
On Monday January 30th SPMA opened their second full time school in Liverpool. SPMA senior student John Breakspear is the chief instructor at Liverpool. There are classes in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Thai Kickboxing daily and mixed martial arts once per week. There are also kids classes daily. Members now have the option of training at two facilities for the one fee.
For approximately the first 3 months chief instructor Anthony Perosh will be at Liverpool on Monday mornings and Thursday nights and chief instructor Elvis Sinosic will be at Liverpool Monday nights and Wednesday mornings. SPMA’s Thai kickboxing instructor will also be teaching at Liverpool on Wednesday nights.
The classes are not divided in to beginners and advanced yet. All classes are open to all levels of students. SPMA will hold their first grading at Liverpool in June 2006. Following that the classes will be split in to beginners and intermediate.
Elvis in UFC
Chief Instructor Elvis Sinosic fought in UFC 57 in Las Vegas on February 4th against Alessio Sakara from Italy. He put in a good performance but lost the match by decision. You can view a detailed description of the match and view some photos at www.ufc.tv
Warriors Realm
Chief Instructor Anthony Perosh will be fighting at Warriors Realm in the octagon cage on February 25th on the Sunshine Coast. We wish him all the best.

The next Spartan show is on March 25th on the Gold Coast. SPMA may have up to 4 respresentatives fighting on the night including chief instructor Anthony Perosh, Ben Power, Ben Cordony and Steven Micallef. SPMA Newsletter January 2006
We are open!!!
It has been back to training as normal for SPMA since January 3rd. We hope everyone had a safe and Happy New Year and we look forward to training with you in 2006.
Annual awards
On Wednesday night December 14th the winners of SPMA’s annual awards were presented. Congratulations to all the winners. The winners are:
- Kids Most Improved of the Year: Daniel Nanchahal
- Kids Competitor of the Year: Phillip Ferraro
- Adults Most Improved of the Year: Richard Thambyah
- Adults Competitor of the Year: Sari Redzeposki
New high ranks
Four BJJ purple belts were awarded and two purple Thai Kickboxing t-shirts were awarded at the last grading. Congratulations to Ben Cordony, Peter Nicholas, Dean Vella and John Breakspear for their purple belts and Sari Redzeposki and Martin Hayes for their purple t-shirts. It is our first purple t-shirts presented and only one away from black t-shirt.
Liverpool Grand Opening
SPMA will be opening their second full time school in Liverpool on January 30th. Senior instructor John Breakspear will be the instructor at Liverpool. There will be Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Thai Kickboxing and Kids classes 5 days per week. Be sure to check out our website for the timetable and for more news.

Elvis in UFC
Chief Instructor Elvis is fighting in UFC 57 in Las Vegas on February 4th against Alessio Sakara from Italy. We wish him all the best in his match.
