Competition results:
The 3rd and final NSW BJJ circuit for the year was held on November 14th. SPMA (part of Team Machado) came 3rd in the adult teams event and 1st in the kids team event on the day. Overall Team Machado came 2nd in the adults teams and 1st in the kids team for 2004. Well done Team Machado. You can view a detailed tournament report on our website www.sinosicperosh.com.au
Three students from SPMA competed in XFC 6 on November 20th on the Gold Coast. Denis Roberts won by TKO in the 2nd round in his first ever MMA match. Ben Mallia won the junior welterweight title after beating his opponent by TKO in the 3rd round. And in the main event defending heavyweight champion Steve Thomas lost his match and title in a very close decision.
Cameron Wilson fought in a kickboxing match on November 21st. Cameron was fighting for the vacant state title. During the match both fighters kicked each others shin with a round kick. As a result Cameron broke his right shin from the impact. Cameron has since had surgery on the shin to repair it and is already walking on it as part of his rehab. We wish him a speedy recovery.
Spartan 12 was held on November 28. Alex Sinclair made his debut. Alex was dominating the match at the start but was unlucky in the end losing by TKO.
Well done to everyone who recently competed. Remember that whatever the result, performance is the key.

About 12 students from SPMA came up to support and an endless number of SMS messages were sent from students wishing me luck and also congratulating me. I thank you once again”.

Results:
Chief Instructor Anthony Perosh lost by decision in his MMA match against Light Heavyweight Champion Sam Nest in Melbourne on 20/5/04. Anthony had his chances to win when he had Sam in a back choke twice and the mount position a few times too. This loss will make Anthony only stronger as he is scheduled to fight Matt Foki next for the Spartan Heavyweight Championship on July 31. Chief Instructor Elvis Sinosic has also taken a match against an unnamed opponent at this stage to fight in Korea at a Pancrase show on July 17th. Let the hard training begin.
On June 5th Ultimate Ring Pankration was held in Riverwood. There were 11 fights on the night. Heath McManus was first up from Sinosic Perosh Martial Arts and won his match by a sleeper choke on the ground. Nick Tchan then won easily in the first minute of the first round by taking his opponent to the ground and making his opponent tap with a triangle choke. And finally Ash Noble was able to keep his composure and come from behind to win the match with an armlock on the ground with only 30 seconds to spare in the final round. Ninos Georges and Cameron Wilson were also scheduled to fight but their opponents pulled out at the last minute. Ninos entertained the crowd with an exhibition match to open the night of action. This was a great effort by all 5 students as all of them put in hard training in the weeks of preparation leading to the event. Congratulations to all of them!
The first annual Australian BJJ Championships were held on June 13th. Click here for a full wrap up of how SPMA and Team Machado did.

Start of the New Year:
We hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year. We have been open for one week now and back in full swing. There has been no change to the class times. We will see you all at training.
Christmas Party 2003:
A great turnout of about 60 members with family and friends came to our Christmas party at Bicentennial Park last December and about 25 kicked on for Part 2 of the Christmas party at HOME bar at Cockle Bay. It was great to see so many people there. Check the gallery as photos from the party will be added shortly.
First Annual SPMA awards:
SPMA started a new tradition in 2003 by presenting four new awards to members at the Christmas party. SPMA opened on the 13/5/02 and 2003 was the first full year SPMA have been open. Four nominees were chosen in each category. Each winner received a trophy to keep and had their name engraved on a plaque which hangs up at the academy. The other three finalists also received a trophy to keep.
SPMA has 225 members with so many making great achievements in 2003. It was very hard to narrow it down to just four names in each category. The winners of the awards are as follows with the finalist’s names in brackets:
- Adult Competitor of the year: Alex Sinclair (Sari Redzeposki, Ash Noble, Craig Simmons)
- Adult Most Improved of the year: Jessyka Benchoam (Nathan Harrower, Nick Tchan, Martin Hayes)
- Kids Competitor of the year: Sabrina Nanchahal (Dominic Nanchahal, Elliot Lyons, Mason Clark)
- Kids Most Improved of the year: Franco Cheng (Jakob Bechara, Mansour Taouk, Michael Gulloto)
Congratulations to all the winners and finalists. The four plaques have room for another 15 names to add over the next 15 years. Will it be you in 2004?

Anthony wins Spartan 8!!!
Anthony Perosh won the 8 man eliminator convincingly. AP finished Api Hemara
in 1:13 by rear choke, a brutal match with Mal Foki ending at about the 3
minute mark with Mal submitting from strikes while mounted (Click here for
the first photo from Spartan 8).
Unfortunately Matt Foki couldn't step up for the final due to a serious foot
injury sustained in his semi vs Dave Frendin. Anthony faced Dave Frendin in
the final and finished by rear choke in about 2 minutes.
With the exception of his semi against Mal Foki, Anthony never looked
troubled and it was hard to believe he had never fought in MMA competition
before, the proverbial duck to water. Considering his first 2 opponents were
undefeated and had x11 wins between them, also that every other match in the
eliminator went the distance, an incredible debut performance!
