2003 World BJJ Championships Update
Hi Everone,
It is Monday here in Brazil. The tournament is over and everyone did well and is injury free.
I (Anthony Perosh) won a bronze medal in the 91-97kg brown belt division. I had 2 wins and 1 loss. I lost to the guy who won the division. In the absolute division I had one win and one loss. I lost in the quarter final against the guy who ended up making the final and winning second.
Elvis had one win and one loss in the 85-91kg division losing in the round of 16. In the absolute division he had one win and one loss. Both his wins were by submission in quick time.
Our new blue belt girls Sari Redzeposki (51kg) and Lin Donevska (61kg) both lost their first matches narrowly. Sari lost to the eventual winner of the division on points. Sari was the only competitor not tapped by the champion. Lin had a tough match and only lost by one advantage to nil. A very close match that could have gone either way. Both women divisions had between 16-20 competitors.
Michael McGee (Canberra blue belt) narrowly lost on points in his first match in the blue belt division. Michale was able to score points but not enough for the win.
An excellent performance by Team Machado Australia and Sinosic Perosh Martial Arts.
We are off to Dallas on Wednesday for 10 days to train with Carlos Machado.
See you all soon.
Regards,
Anthony Perosh

Grading
The BJJ Grading was held on 12/3/03 and 13/3/03 and the Kids grading was held on 13/3/03. A total of 90 students attended the gradings over the 3 days. You can view the updated ranks on www.sinosicperosh.com.au We are aiming to have the first Kickboxing grading in June of this year.
Michael Jen Seminar
Twenty people attended the 3+ hour seminar held by Michael Jen, a BJJ black belt from the USA, on the 2/3/03. The seminar was a great success.
Boxing Ring and Heavy Bags
Yes it is up and fully operational. A kickboxing frame with 3 heavy bags, speedball, floor to ceiling ball and chin up bar has been installed. It also has hooks on each corner post to make a 5m x 5m ring. This addition to our academy brings us one step closer to being a world-class facility.
BJJ Circuit Tournament #1
The first of the tournaments was held in Manly on the 23/3/03. Our academy had 21 competitors with at least another 15 coming to show their support. First place went to Alex Sinclair, Lin Donevska, Sari Redzeposki and Shane Parker. Peter Nicholas won a silver medal. Bronze medals went to Sam De Zoete, Ashley Noble and Martin Christenson. Ian Heddle, Victor Fox, Noriel Bernardo and Phil Lester also posted wins but missed out on medals. Veteran competitors John Hakim, Rishi Chawla and Nathan Harrower lost their first matches but had good matches. And a big round of applause to first time competitors Don Nguyen, Andre Kravcheni, Steve Bonora and Dean Dib. Unfortunately and very disappointing was that Anthony & Elvis were scheduled to compete in a 4-man Heavyweight Brown belt division. The two Brazilian brown belts that were supposed to compete pulled out with injuries. Anthony & Elvis were looking forward to the competition as none of them have fought in Sydney or in front of their students for a long time.
